Spain 2025 Review - Debbie Jones
Spectacular Spain - A Stunningly Brilliant Wildlife Photography Tour - Debbie Jones 2025
I have waited a while before writing this review as I wanted to see whether my initial excitement for this tour with Apex Adventures would fade over time and I am very pleased to say it hasn’t, it still ranks as one of the best things I have done for a very long time.
I would consider myself to be a keen but fairly inexperienced wildlife photographer, I enjoy wildlife photography workshops as there is always something beautiful to photograph, a new challenge and something to learn in order to enhance my photography skills.
As a female photographer travelling alone, I am always a little cautious when booking a tour with a company I have not worked with before. So prior to the booking I had a long chat with both Mike an Adam at Apex Adventures and discussed this trip along with others that had sparked my interest.
Enjoying a drink on Day 1.
The first things that struck me about both Mike and Adam was how friendly and open they were. Their intense passion for wildlife photography, combined with their in-depth knowledge of the subjects shone through and made me feel very comfortable and at home with these guys; there was no hard sell, just an honest overview of the tours they offered.
I have to say that photographing birds was not ranked that high on my wildlife photography bucket list as I tend to prefer larger mammals, but I decided to take on the challenge and I booked the Spectacular Spain Tour as a test run before considering the other trips I was interested in and I am truly glad that I did. This trip was absolutely fantastic from start to finish; everything was meticulously planned and ran brilliantly. The accommodation and food was excellent. The species we saw was incredibly diverse, Golden Eagles, Griffon Vultures, Egyptian Vultures, Bee Eaters, Hoopoe, Red and Black Kites, Little Owls, Golden Oriole, Hawfinches just to name just a few. Each photography session provided a fresh challenge and a new learning curve for me, with some truly spectacular results which were achieved by taking on board the expert knowledge and advice primarily from Mike and Adam, but also from the whole group. I have to admit that going on this trip has dramatically increased not only my photography skills but also my knowledge about birds to the extent that I’m now far more interested in bird photography, than I ever thought possible.
A fabulous group of people.
This has been an absolutely incredible trip which literally took my breath away when I was photographing the Golden Eagle, to the extent that Mike had to remind me to breathe while I was taking my photos. The trip was made truly special by the nicest group of wildlife crazy photographers I have had the privilege to meet. I started the trip as a stranger and ended it with a group of people I am honoured to call friends.
So, would I book it again… in a heartbeat… well almost, as I’m intending to work through many of the other tours Apex Adventures have to offer first!
